October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Finding employment can be particularly challenging for individuals with disabilities. Unfortunately, over 70% of individuals who are blind or visually impaired (BVI) remain unemployed, despite their strong desire to work.

During my recent trip to Grand Forks, North Dakota with Nikki Gathard, Sales and Merchandising Manager at Envision Xpress, we had the opportunity to meet with North Dakota Vision Services/ School for the Blind. This engagement allowed us to educate instructors about Envision—who we are, what we do, where we operate, job opportunities we offer for people who are BVI, and why our mission is so important. The instructors were genuinely interested and impressed by the variety of job opportunities available through Envision.

Our conversations highlighted the importance of connecting with educational institutions to raise awareness about the employment possibilities for individuals with disabilities. By sharing our passion for Envision’s mission and the diverse roles the company offers, we hope to inspire and empower more individuals to pursue meaningful careers. In the future, we will continue to engage in these conversations and advocate for more people who are BVI to pursue purposeful and meaningful employment opportunities!
