In the summer of 2022, we launched a $15 million capital campaign to support a new state-of-the-art center for Envision Dallas focused on increasing employment opportunities and access to independent living resources for people with vision loss in North Texas. We are proud to say that we have accomplished this goal and have moved into our newly renovated facility!

Now, with the move to our new 210,000 square foot building in Farmers Branch, we have expanded our programs, rehabilitation and employment services and have centralized our entire operation under one roof!

Envision Dallas, one of the largest employers of people who are blind or visually impaired in Texas, has been rapidly expanding to create employment opportunities and access to critical services for the 150,000 North Texans who have vision loss. Today, we employ nearly 100 people who are blind or visually impaired, and we serve more than 3,000 clients annually with programs that promote independence and opportunity.

The LC Industries Foundation, who has long supported Envision’s mission, kickstarted the capital campaign with a $6 million gift, the largest donation in Envision’s history. A generous $1 million gift from Larry and Susy Kimbler helped fulfill a $2 million Mabee Foundation challenge grant, resulting in our successful capital campaign.

Expanded Manufacturing and Warehouse Facility

Envision Dallas is one of the largest employers of people who are blind or visually impaired in the U.S., providing meaningful careers while supporting our not-for-profit mission. We proudly manufacture goods for the U.S. military, offering employment to over 100 Texans who are BVI.

Our core services include: Fulfillment and Kitting, ensuring efficient assembly, packaging, and shipment handling tailored to client needs; and Manufacturing & Sewing, producing high-quality sewn products with precision. We also offer Custom Award Binders, Safety Apparel designed to industry standards, and a reliable supply of Shelf-Stable Foods & Bottled Water. Our commitment to empowering employment ensures a stable, dedicated workforce and consistent product quality.

Enhanced Vision Rehabilitation Center

The Envision Dallas Vision Rehabilitation Center offers a comprehensive range of specialized services dedicated to supporting individuals with low vision through a collaborative, holistic team approach. Partnering closely with Dr. Amy Burcham from Beacon Vision Center, we provide expert low vision rehabilitation tailored to each person’s unique needs.

Services that are provided to people who are blind or visually impaired of any age, regardless of ability to pay, include: Occupational Therapy, Independent Living Skills Training, Orientation and Mobility Training, and Assistive Technology Training. These services are made by the support of our donors.

Introducing the William L. Hudson BVI Workforce Innovation Center

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, Envision Dallas is proud to introduce the new Workforce Innovation Center. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to bridge current gaps in the labor market by empowering individuals who are blind or visually impaired to excel in high-tech, skilled, and intellectual roles. Built on a foundation of inclusion and accessibility, the center offers cutting-edge training and career opportunities, ensuring that diverse professionals can contribute their unique talents to drive breakthrough performance.

The WIC team is lead by blind Director, Mika Pyyhkala, a digital accessibility expert. He and his team manage accessibility projects for clients across the country as well as pioneer new initiatives to make progress for people with vision loss in the work and digital space.

Improved LC Industries Assistive Technology Center

The assistive technology center established by the LC Industries Foundation has provided training stations for hands-on, one-on-one courses and training for those who are blind or visually impaired to learn or enhance their skills with computers and other electronic devices - regardless of their ability to pay.

This essential training helps people who are blind or visually impaired maintain their independence, continue their education, find and keep long-term professional positions, and develop the computer skills needed to stay connected to the community.

Establishing the Early Child Development Center

Opening in summer 2025, the Envision Dallas Cathy G. Hudson Early Child Development Center will be the only vision integrated early education center in the region providing comprehensive learning experiences and support to children and their families. Our state-of-the-art facility will bring children ages 0–5 years together in classrooms in which all students, irrespective of their vision, abilities or skills, are welcomed holistically. We are proud to be able to cultivate an environment that reflects respect for individuality and foster a sense of self and belonging for all children and their families.

Increased Life-Enhancing Community Programs

Our variety of inclusive community programs and events provide individuals with a sense of belonging through important social engagements and educational workshops. Monthly events like bingo, sculpting class and adult support group are offered to employees and people within the community who are blind or visually impaired.

The newly established Envision Arts Studio will soon offer a regular schedule of classes and workshops, providing artists of all levels with a creative outlet for self-expression. Additionally, partnerships with Dallas ISD, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Nasher Sculpture Center bring artistic educational programming to the space, enriching the lives of both adults and youth.

There are more than 150,000 North Texans who are blind or visually impaired. A poll from the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology found that Americans believe losing their vision would create the largest impact on their lives.

Vision loss ranked even higher than other life-altering effects like Alzheimer’s and cancer. The loss of independence and quality of life were the top concerns for those surveyed. At Envision Dallas, our clients live with this reality every day.

For these individuals, vision loss can lead to significant gaps in educational achievement and employment opportunities.
